Trust is your most valuable asset
A phone is personal. When you send an SMS, you are entering someone's pocket. Businesses that treat that with respect keep customers for years. Businesses that spam get blocked, ignored and sometimes reported. Here are the simple rules we recommend to every customer.
1. Get permission
Send messages to people who expect to hear from you: your customers, your members, your students' parents, people who gave you their number for that purpose. Don't buy lists and don't send to numbers you simply found. Messages to people who never asked for them damage your sender ID and your reputation.
2. Say who you are
Use your registered sender ID and mention your business name in the message. People should never have to wonder who is texting them.
3. Send at sensible times
- Avoid late nights and early mornings.
- Think about local routines, such as prayer times, school hours and public holidays.
- For reminders, send early enough for the person to act.
4. Don't overdo it
A message every day trains people to ignore you. For promotions, one or two a month is often plenty. For services like reminders and alerts, send what's useful and nothing more.
5. Make it easy to opt out
For marketing messages, give people a way to say stop, such as replying, calling or telling you. Then actually remove them from your list. People who can leave easily are more likely to stay.
6. Be honest
Don't promise what you can't deliver, and don't create false urgency. Fake deadlines teach customers to ignore real ones.
7. Protect their information
Keep your lists private. Don't share or sell your customers' numbers. Use the list only for the purpose people gave it for.
Why this matters for your results
Respectful messaging isn't only ethical. It works better. Clean lists, relevant content and good timing mean more messages read, more replies and fewer complaints. And a business with a good reputation keeps its sender ID, its customers and its peace of mind.
