Here are the 12 most common reasons your SMS didn't deliver in Uganda and Africa — and exactly how to fix each one.

1. Invalid or malformed phone numbers

Symptom: SMS fails immediately with "invalid number" error.

Cause: Numbers that are too short, too long, contain letters, or use wrong country codes.

Fix: Validate numbers before sending. Ugandan format should be 256 followed by 9 digits (e.g. 256712345678). Yoola SMS auto-corrects common format issues.

2. Disconnected or barred numbers

Symptom: SMS shows "failed" or "delivery unknown".

Cause: The subscriber's line has been suspended, disconnected, or is out of SIM validity.

5. Unregistered or unauthorized sender ID

Symptom: SMS fails with "sender not allowed" error.

6. Content flagged as spam

7. Sender ID looks like a scam

Symptom: Recipients report never seeing SMS from your brand.

Cause: Generic sender IDs like "INFO", "ALERT", "PROMO" get filtered by phones or ignored by users.

Fix: Use a distinctive, branded sender ID like "STMARYS" or "MYBUSINESS" that clearly identifies you.

8. Recipient's phone is off or out of coverage

Symptom: SMS delayed hours or reported as "pending".

Cause: Rural areas with 2G/3G-only coverage, phones switched off, or dead batteries.

9. Message length exceeded

Symptom: Long messages arrive split or incomplete.

Cause: SMS is limited to 160 characters per segment. Messages over that get split into multiple SMS. Some phones don't reassemble them correctly.

10. Unicode/emoji issues
