Frequently Asked Questions

What is a sender ID?

A sender ID is the name your customers see in the "From" field when they receive your SMS. Instead of seeing "+256700000000" or "Yoola", they see your business name (e.g. "MYSCHOOL"). This builds trust, prevents spam reports, and improves open rates.

Why does MTN cost UGX 250,000/month but Airtel is once-off?

These are the actual prices charged by the telecoms. MTN Uganda charges a recurring monthly fee for sender ID slots. Airtel Uganda charges a one-time registration fee. We pass these through with a small handling margin and a UGX 100,000 setup fee for our team's work in registering, monitoring, and supporting your sender ID.

How long does activation take?

Once payment is confirmed, MTN-only sender IDs typically go live in 3–7 working days. Airtel and dual-network sender IDs take 5–10 working days because of additional verification on Airtel's side.

Can someone else use my sender ID?

No. Sender IDs on Yoola SMS are locked to a single API key. The system rejects any send attempt by a different account using your sender ID.

What if I don't renew on time?

Your sender ID will be deactivated and your messages will fall back to the default ATInfo sender. You can renew at any time, but if you let it lapse for more than 30 days the telecom may release the name and someone else could claim it. We send WhatsApp + email reminders 7 days before expiry.

What characters are allowed in a sender ID?

Letters (A–Z, a–z) and digits (0–9) only. No spaces, no symbols, no emojis. Maximum 11 characters. Examples: MYSCHOOL, Yoola2025, SACCO360.

Can I get a refund if my sender ID is rejected?

Yes. If the telecom rejects your sender ID (for example, because the name is too generic or trademark-protected), we refund the telecom fee in full. The UGX 50,000 setup fee is non-refundable as it covers our administrative work.

How do I pay?

After your request is submitted, our team reaches out via WhatsApp (+256 704 487 563) with payment instructions. We accept MTN MoMo, Airtel Money, and bank transfer. Once payment confirms, we kick off registration the same day.
